Growing up as a Māori girl in NSW Australia I felt a disconnect to my whenua and found that connection and support through art. Creativity has always been in my life ranging from painting to theatre and photography. This love for creativeness started forming into a love for graphic design. From this passion I was able to come home and start studying Communication design at Otago Polytechnic School of Design.
I have worked on many projects that range from graphic design/print, branding, film and animation. I am still wanting to explore other medias and build my skillset, constant learning is something I am very passionate in.
As a designer I value strong relationships between designer and client that sustain creativity, honesty and learning; as a communication designer I think it is extremely necessary to surround yourself with good people who challenge your ways of thinking but also support you. To me it’s an ongoing circle of growing together and bettering ourselves and our work. “You have to decide to grow.” (Martina Martian, 2019) this is extremely important to me because I believe you have to be your own best supporter.

Graphic design is all around us and designers have an important role to play in developing our world; how we communicate social issues and conveying our thoughts is extremely important and I believe we should be bettering our audience through it.
Due to the speed at which things come and go in and out of fashion it’s important to me to consider the ever-changing trends and patterns in design and learn
how I can integrate them into my
own work.

I am always making incremental changes to my style and evolving what my designs represent to me and the world around me. I am motivated by the environment around me and new spaces that I explore, not necessarily new countries or cities but even smaller places like an unknown cafe. I actively channel what I see or interact with on a daily basis into my design work – this keeps my design outcomes fresh and true to myself.
